Buena Comida Mexicana

September 26th, 2008 by admin

As Charles wrote on emptywrapper.com, good Mexican food is a rarity in Australia. For some reason, it just hasn’t become popular. If I was to guess which foreign nations cuisine would be the most popular in Australia it would have to be Chinese or Thai. I don’t think there is a town anywhere in Aus without at least one Chinese restaurant.

The Sydney suburb of Newtown is filled with possibly the widest variety of restaurants anywhere in the world, so you would expect to find at least one decent Mexican place. We have, and it’s called Guzman Y Gomez.

Guzman Y Gomez

Apart from the funky design and communal table, the food is actually very tasty. It’s completely different to fast food style Mexican we usually get in Aus (Taco Bell closed up here a few years ago), and I guess that it’s also quite healthy.

Just take it easy on the Extra Hot sauce.
